What types of courses are available?

Mind Project offers a variety of training courses based on their length, level, location and subject. Our participants can take part in 2-hour (evening) seminars, one-day, two-day or three-day open-to-public training courses or a selection of in-house workshops and training courses depending on the needs of our corporate clients. We provide our training in major business cities across UK e.g. London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, and also abroad e.g. Paris, Berlin or Frankfurt. The participants of our courses and workshops possess varying degrees of data science and statistical computing knowledge. Some of them are novice data analysts, some others are current postdoctoral researchers or data scientists willing to upgrade or refresh their skills. The subjects of our public training courses concentrate around quantitative data analysis, applied statistics and tools used in a broad field of data science, however the in-house training may also relate to other areas of interest depending on our client’s requirements.

How long are the courses?

The course length depends on its type. For example, the evening seminars usually last 2 hours (plus some networking time) and start around 6:30pm. The one-, two-, or three-day training courses start at 9:30am and finish by 5:00pm. The length of the in-house courses or workshops is discussed with a client individually.

What is included in the attendance/participation fee?

The booking fee includes the participation in all sessions of the training course for which the payment was made. Apart from that the participants of one-, two-, and three-day courses will receive all presentation slides, course codes and scripts, a list of reference books and online resources for self-study, additional home self-study exercises, digital versions of all lecture and tutorial resources on a Mind Project-branded USB memory stick (or CD) and a Mind Project course attendance certificate. They will also benefit from unlimited Wi-Fi access and networking opportunities with fellow participants. Additionally, all our courses are conveniently located for local, regional and international transport.

How can I book my place on the course?

If you want to book a place on one of our courses, simply read all information about your chosen course and follow the instructions in the course description. Before booking, make sure that you have read and understood Training & Events Terms & Conditions and Training Courses – Frequently Asked Questions. If you are still in doubt, you can always send us a message using our Contact page. Please note that we can only confirm your booking if it was fully-paid.

What is the Participant's Skills Inventory?

The Participant’s Skills Inventory allows us to design each and every course with you and your current skills in mind. Upon booking your place, you will be asked to answer a number of simple closed and open questions about your education background, industry in which you are currently working, your motivation to take part in a course and your data analysis / statistical skills. You DO NOT have to provide your personal details and the Inventory is OPTIONAL, however this is your opportunity to help us create a good environment for your training experience.

Where are the courses held?

All courses and seminars are held in major cities such as London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Berlin, Paris etc. or on the business premises of our clients. In order to provide you with the best quality training we co-operate with leading venue or universities to offer you a great learning environment and positive experience. All courses and events are conveniently located to allow you comfortable transport links for local, regional or international travel.

How many attendees do usually take part in Mind Project courses?

Most of our training courses gather up to 10-12 participants. This group size allows a smooth learning process and efficient communication between tutors and participants. On the other hand, the evening seminars are designed to accommodate 20 participants or more depending on the subject of the seminar. For in-house training, we are happy to deliver our training services to any number of participants.

Do you offer any discounts?

In case you would like to make a group booking on one of our open-to-public courses for 4 or more participants please contact us directly to discuss your budget. In-house training rates are discussed individually with each client. Undergraduate and postgraduate UK-based university students and representatives of UK-based charitable organisations are eligible for approximately a 30% discount on all of our courses (including evening seminars). Please read the price information on each course for more details or contact us directly.

What types of in-house training can be arranged?

Our organisational/corporate clients can discuss their individual needs with us directly. We are flexible as to the length and location of the training (both nationwide and internationally) as long as our tutor is booked for a minimum block of one day in total. Usually, the in-house training is booked for a half of a day (4 hours with one 15-minute break, either morning or afternoon), one day (9:30am – 5:00pm including two 15-minute breaks and one 1-hour lunch break), two days (each day as in case of a one-day in-house training) or more. The cost of the in-house training will generally include tutor’s travel expenses and accommodation, but this depends on location of client’s premises. The training may involve data analysis / statistical training (both concepts or theory and practical applications), statistical computing and data science tools (R, SPSS, Python, Scala, Java etc.), data visualisation techniques and Big Data training etc. All terms and conditions of the in-house training are discussed with our clients.

Do you provide free copies of statistical software e.g. SPSS, R, MatLab?

Unfortunately, we DO NOT resell or distribute licensed software such as SPSS or MatLab. You can obtain free-of-charge trial versions of the statistical packages directly from their manufacturers: e.g. SPSS (http://www-01.ibm.com/software/uk/analytics/spss/) or MatLab (http://www.mathworks.co.uk/products/matlab/). In case of R or Python binaries, as they are open-source tools you can download them free of any charge directly from their websites. Please also note that we DO NOT provide any technical support or help in any of the above tools.

I booked a place on the course, but cannot attend. Do you offer refunds?

We refund full amount of the booking fee, no questions asked, if you cancel your attendance in writing (it can be an e-mail message) at least 15 calendar days before the event. If you cancel between 14 and 8 calendar days before the event we will offer a full refund minus £30 + VAT cancellation fee for each day of the course. If you cancel 7 calendar days before the event or later, no fees will be refunded. For example, if you paid £300 + VAT (£360) for a two-day training course and want to cancel your participation 12 calendar days before the start date of your course, you will receive £288 as a refund (£360 – 2 x £36 = £288). The cancellation charge is to cover Mind Project’s administration expenses and delegate rates to the venue provider. However, we aim to evaluate each cancellation on a case-by-case basis and we may be able to offer other courses at later and more suitable dates instead.

Do I have to bring my own laptop to the course?

In order to benefit fully from our training courses, you are advised to bring your own laptop to the venue. Please make sure you have installed the most recent version of a statistical tool for which the course is designed. Please note that we will not be held responsible for any damage or loss to either your equipment or intellectual property (such as data, files, operating systems etc.) stored on your equipment if you decide to bring your laptop to the course.

Who are the tutors/instructors on Mind Project training courses?

The training tutors are Mind Project’s employees and hired freelance data scientists, university lecturers or professional data analysts with years of industry or teaching experience. Most of our contracted tutors hold Ph.D. or other postgraduate degrees (MSc, MPhil, MRes etc.) in social sciences, finance, computer science, cognitive psychology, health sciences, mathematics, physics, statistics or business studies. We assign our tutors based on specific interests of our participants or client’s requirements.

I cannot participate in a part of the course, what can I do?

If you can’t participate in some of the sessions of a course please contact us to discuss alternative options. We may suggest a similar course on a different date or offer you a partial attendance fee option provided the course is not fully-booked already.
